Peggy Bochun, the VSB's Fine Arts Coordinator, was honoured this fall with a special award from the Canadian Music Educators' Association for her years of work organizing a wide range of annual district events including festivals, concerts, artist-in-residence programming, performances for the Board and community partnership programs.
"It is important to recognize what Peggy does in addition to this work," said Mark Reid, a Van Tech music teacher and President of the Canadian Music Educators' Association. "Peggy has both built and sustains a community of music educators as she supports the work of the Vancouver School Music Teachers' Association, a Local Specialist Association within the BCMEA."
Bochun has worked in Vancouver schools for the past 24 years.
"Now, in 2014, I look over the years and recognize the hard work and dedication of past and present music educators who I have worked with who have made and continue to make a difference," says Bochun. "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for this meaningful recognition and for the music community who have been a valuable part of my life."
Reid says Bochun's contributions to the music community in Vancouver go beyond her excellent organizational and programming skills. He says Vancouver teachers know first hand that a call for assistance always leads to achievable results.
"Her ethical, sincere and honest action has earned the respect of District management and her observations and concerns about opportunities for program growth are genuine," he says. "The community that Peggy has built is comprised of remarkable people who are passionate about the work they each do in their own schools. She works with people who give immeasurable amounts of time to students."
