Trudeau Basketball Team Triumphs at Van Tech Basketball Tournament

Trudeau's senior boys team are champions of the Van Tech Basketball Tournament.

Held January 23-24, the tournament included a variety of eastside teams including some teams from Burnaby. Trudeau had 15 boys on their squad and was coached by Trudeau PE teacher Deb Forsyth.

Principal Kim Nemeth says Forsyth is a force to be reckoned with. Thanks to her hard work and the support of many other amazing teachers and support staff, Trudeau boasts a strong sports culture with programs for cross country, soccer, volleyball, badminton, basketball and track and field running throughout the year.

Nemeth says under the supervision of Forsyth and SSA Bal Dhasi, the boys practiced twice a week and pretty much all the time before and after school. Despite a fierce practice regime, she says the kids were surprised when they won.

"The kids were elated, energized and shocked," she says. "But they were extremely proud of their success but they attribute it to their team work, cooperation and effort."

Nemeth says she feels like it is a real privilege to be working with this sort of committed group of teachers and coaches.
