This February, Templeton Secondary hosted the award winning Jhuo Lan Dragon Dance Team from Taiwan for a school wide Lunar New Year performance. The students were visiting from National Jhuolan Experimental High School and stopped at Templeton as a part of their two-week cultural visit to Vancouver.
According to Asian tradition, the dragon symbolizes success and power-and dragon dancers combine martial-arts movements with acrobatic expression to bring New Year blessings.
Templeton students and the school community enjoyed the high-caliber dance; many remarked on the dynamic and entertaining performance.
"The costumes and dragon were really amazing in addition to the outstanding cultural performance," says David Derpak, International Education District Principal.
The afternoon event also showcased Templeton student performers in Kung Fu and the school-based dragon dance team.
The performances were attended by the Director General, Division Director and Education Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO).
