This February, 250 students from Grades 4-7 headed into the Van Horne Elementary gym to take in the sights, sounds and presentations at the school's annual science fair.
Grade 7 student Steven Xia was one of the many youngsters who proudly presented a hypothesis and research. Xia had decided to discover the best household liquid to use to clean rust.
He spent seven hours trying all sorts of solutions including lemon juice, vinegar, salt water, toilet cleaner and windshield cleaner. Turned out the most effective liquid was lemon juice which Xia reasoned was highly acidic.
Xia says it is exciting to have kids learn about his project each year. It's a great tradition, which he's been participating in since he was in Grade 2.
