The VSB SWIS Program Byng Project 3B will be hosting the UNICEF Newcomer Youth Ambassador Recognition & Nepal Earthquake Relief Fundraiser on May 22 (Friday) from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in the Auditorium of Lord Byng.
Students, parents, schools and communities from across the city are invited to join the 150 volunteers to recognize the achievement of the UNICEF Newcomer Youth Ambassadors and to show support and compassion to the Nepalese community, especially the Nepalese students and families in our schools. As well the evening will include a focus on fundraising for UNICEF's Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund
The UNICEF Newcomer Youth Ambassador Project is a settlement integration initiative by the VSB SWIS Program to encourage, engage and inspire newcomer youth to take leadership locally to respond to global charity needs. In the past 4 months, 26 newcomer youth ambassadors designed and implemented 9 fundraising projects alongside newcomer parent project advisers in schools and in communities.
"With the hard work and the dedication of the students and generosity of our community," says Janet Chung, Settlement and VSB SWIS Program Worker. "We collectively fundraised $10,800 to provide support to support 1,800 vulnerable children worldwide with a chance to continue to receive education in emergency situations or crises through the UNICEF School In A Box Program."
