Job Action Update - August 27, 2014 - Child Care Options for Parents During Job Action

The safety and security of all our students is our highest priority. Should any students arrive at school while picket lines are in place, our school administrators will ensure that they are cared for until they can be safely returned to their homes under the supervision of a parent or guardian.

We understand that providing supervision during the day for their children is challenging for many families. With this in mind, the district has created a short list of organizations around Vancouver, which we understand are planning to hold day camps into September should job action continue. Here are a few options to be aware of:

City of Vancouver Day Camps

The City of Vancouver is currently offering a number of day camps at various community centres around the city. You can learn more about what is offered here: http://vancouver.ca/people-programs/daycamps-at-community-centres.aspx

Neighbourhood Houses and Family Resource Centres

Many neighbourhood houses and resource centres are running additional programs to provide additional supervision during job action. The BC Association of Family Resource Programs has a good list here:http://www.frpbc.ca/dir/community/Vancouver/?page=1

YMCA Day Camps

The Greater Vancouver YMCA is another option. You can learn more about the programs offered by the YMCA this fall here: http://www.vanymca.org/

Boys and Girls Clubs Camps

Local Boys and Girls Clubs are offering programs in a number of neighbourhoods around the city. You can learn more here: http://www.bgcbc.ca/what-we-do/clubs/
