Nightingale Elementary school was abuzz Thursday, June 5, as the cast of NightinGlee performed the hits: "I've Got the Music in Me", "Somebody to Love", "True Colours", "Lean on Me", "You've Got a Friend" and "I Just Want to Celebrate". Directed by Nightingale Elementary School Principal Hope Sterling, the production was based on the hit TV show "Glee".
The songs were performed by twenty two Nightingale Elementary students, in Grades 2-6 who were so committed to the show's success that they dedicated their lunch hours to practicing.
"Over the last 2 months of practices the group transformed into a tight knit family, encouraging and very supportive of one another. It was great to see our theme of friendship come to life," says Sterling.
The performance brandished colourful NightinGlee t-shirts, and the children sang in chorus accompanied by several students performing solos. Special guest Craig Shervey, Director of Community Relations at the Sarah McLachlin School of Music, was blown away with the performance.
Sterling says special thanks need to go to stage manager Charlene Pirro, a neighbourhood worker and Choreographer Jennifer Kim, a Nightingale Elementary school teacher. She says the productions sound technician, a grade 6 Nightingale student also did an amazing job as well.
This inaugural performance has led to excitement about the possibility of organizing another show. "I'm sad that it's over, but the kids talked about doing it next year," says Sterling.
