Many district students will be heading out yet again this year to participate in G-Day, a new initiative aimed at empowering girls scheduled for Sunday, November 2 at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC.
G-Day is a day-long event that celebrates and empowers girls aged 10 to 12 as they transition into adolescence. Last year's event was attended by dozens of girls from across Metro Vancouver. This year's schedule will include talks on leadership and body image, yoga workshops, facilitated intergenerational conversations as well as dancing and other fun activities.
Last year's event was a big hit for Tyee Elementary Grade 7 student Zahra Shah.
"I liked that the day was so fun and focused on things that we actually are going through right now," says Shah. "I also liked dancing and doing yoga, with so many other girls, that was pretty great too."
