Templeton students show their smarts at Reach for the Top national championships

The Templeton Secondary senior Reach for the Top team showed they were among the smartest teams in the country, scoring a sixth place finish in the 2017 Reach for the Top National Championships, held last month in Toronto.

To start the tournament, the Templeton Titans faced a gruelling 15-game marathon round robin tournament, in which they played every other team at the tournament once. After a strong start, winning three of their first four, Templeton hit a wall, losing four in a row heading into lunch break.

After lunch, Templeton caught fire and went on a roll, winning six of the final eight to finish with a 9-6 record and the sixth seed.

With that record, Templeton qualified for the play-in round, which necessitated a matchup with 11th place St Johns Ravenscourt School from Manitoba. After a close 32-28 win, Templeton faced off with third place Martingrove Collegiate of Toronto in the quarter finals. Although the Titans fell short at this stage, they put on a great show.

Congratulations to Francesca Crema, Fiona Fletcher, Dexter Hine and Jacob Schoeber on their amazing achievement. And congratulations to Francesca for winning one of the four MVP awards of the tournament. All four students have made Templeton and VSB extremely proud.
