Vancouver School Board is looking to hire at least 55 full time equivalent teachers this month (Feb. 2017).
The district was pleased to receive just over $4.4m to bring more teachers into its schools following discussions between the BC Teachers' Federation and the BC Public School Employers' Association related to the Supreme Court of Canada ruling regarding class size and composition. The $4.4million will fund approximately 96 full time equivalent positions.
VSB has worked collaboratively with its schools and the Vancouver Teachers' Federation to determine where to deploy the additional staff time to support student education directly.
In many cases, the additional funding allowed part-time teachers already working for VSB to increase their hours on a continuing basis. This initial process filled the equivalent of nearly 40 of the approximately 96 full time equivalent positions. Those teachers moved to their new hours on Feb. 1.
The district will post for the remaining full time equivalent positions on Feb. 7. Those positions will be a mix of regular classroom and specialist teaching positions.
Vancouver is a beautiful city, and the VSB is a great place to work with outstanding programs and student outcomes. The district encourages qualified, top-notch applicants to apply.
The posting period will run until Feb. 14 at 4:30 p.m., after which the district will begin interviewing and filling positions.
