Exploring trades

Students considering a career in the trades had a chance to gain practical experience of plumbing, carpentry and auto mechanics this summer thanks to a VSB course.

In addition to working directly with pipes, wood and cars, Skills Exploration 11 gave the students opportunities to go on field trips that further enhanced their understanding of the career options available to them.

"The purpose of the course was to expose the students to the different trades that are out there and get them thinking about what they want to do as a career," said Mike Louie, who taught the three-week program at Britannia Secondary with Kim Or.

"The students don't need any background knowledge or experience. It's a good learning experience for everybody."
