Overview

The District is committed to fostering safe and caring schools that promote safety, mutual respect and acceptance. All schools encourage inclusive environments which value all students and families regardless of race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex or sexual orientation, or gender identity/expression.

Similar to other school districts, the District has implemented a new department called Safe and Caring Schools based on the Ministry of Education Guidelines:  Safe, Caring and Orderly Schools:  A Guide. The working vision of the new department is to educate, prevent and provide intervention services for students, staff and families related to school and student safety. Safe and Caring Schools will work alongside the counsellors, students, their families and community resources to ensure student well-being and ultimately, student success.

The Safe and Caring Schools Department intends to grow and evolve based on feedback from students, schools and community.  Updates will be posted regularly.   Please contact scsd@vsb.bc.ca for any questions.
