DLG Weekly Update September 29 - October 3
September 29 – October 3, 2025
Hi DLG families!
Here’s what’s happening at school this week. Lots of exciting things to share!
🌐 Website Maintenance
If you’ve been trying to check out our school website recently, you might’ve noticed it’s been down. The Vancouver School Board is doing some maintenance across all school sites. Thanks for hanging in there—we hope to be back online soon!
🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Tuesday, Sept 30
Just a reminder that there’s no school on Tuesday as we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It’s a time to reflect on the history of Residential Schools and learn more about Indigenous cultures and communities.
Last Friday, we held our Orange Shirt Assembly and were so proud of how respectful and engaged our students were. A big thank you to the families and former staff who joined us—it was a meaningful afternoon.
📚 Books for Breakfast is Back!
We’re excited to welcome back our Books for Breakfast program starting Wednesday at 8:15 AM in the library! Come read with your child while enjoying muffins, fruit, juice, and coffee.
Just a heads-up: kids must be accompanied by an adult.
Thanks to Ms. Heap for bringing this lovely tradition back!
☔ Rainy Days Ahead
Looks like the rain is returning this week! September gave us sunshine, but now it’s time to refill those reservoirs. Please make sure your child comes to school with rain gear—we go outside rain or shine!
🏗️ Seismic Upgrade Update
The final phase of our seismic upgrade is underway—the old building is coming down! It’s exciting to see changes happening and to imagine how our school will grow as a community space.

💛 Counsellor Wishlist – Can You Help?
Our amazing school counsellor, Ms. Welton, works closely with students who need a little extra social and emotional support. She’s put together a wishlist of items that help make her space cozy and welcoming. If you have any of these to donate, please drop them off at the office—we’ll have a box ready!
- Board games (for older students)
- Chunky yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks
- Wide, flat plastic storage boxes
- Small mirrors (like the IKEA kids ones)
- Puzzles (for all ages)
- Nail polish (lots of colours!)
Thank you for helping make a difference!
📖 Library Volunteers Needed
Do you love books and have a few hours to spare during the school day? Our librarian Ms. Dhillon is looking for volunteers to help with shelving, organizing, and other library tasks.
If you’re interested, please email her at sdhillon@vsb.bc.ca.
🏃♂️ Terry Fox Fundraiser – Final Week!
We’re in the last week of our Terry Fox fundraising campaign! Terry’s story continues to inspire us all. If you haven’t donated yet, there’s still time—and feel free to share the donation link with friends and family.
