This February, Templeton Secondary hosted the award winning Jhuo Lan Dragon Dance Team from Taiwan for a school wide Lunar New Year performance. The students were visiting from National Jhuolan Experimental High School and stopped at Templeton as a part of their two-week cultural visit to Vancouver.

Trudeau’s senior boys team are champions of the Van Tech Basketball Tournament. Held January 23-24, the tournament included a variety of eastside teams including some from Burnaby. Trudeau had 15 boys on their team and was coached by Trudeau PE teacher Deb Forsyth.

Janson Ho has been appointed director of the Vancouver seismic project office, which was created last fall to expedite the Province’s Seismic Mitigation Program in the Vancouver school district.

Ho will take on a senior project management role and report to the project office steering committee, which consists of the superintendent and secretary-treasurer from the VSB, the deputy minister of education and the CEO of Partnerships BC.

This year’s Pink Day was a fun one for elementary students in the Killarney family of schools. That’s because the Killarney Choir Department put on quite the extravaganza with sing-along pop hits performed by all seven of the school’s choirs.

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian flag, Grade 3 and 4 students at General Gordon Elementary hosted a very special guest. Hon. Robert Watt, former Chief Herald of Canada and current Citizenship Judge spent the morning discussing the history of our flag and what it means to be a Canadian.

With the help of staff and students at Fleming Elementary, The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) recently launched a classroom resource, Active at School, that will support students in getting active for 60 minutes a day.

The Vancouver Elementary Physical Activity Association (VEPAA) recently held their annual Coaches’ Recognition Reception at VanDusen Gardens. 

The yearly event is an opportunity for elementary school teachers and administrators, who all volunteer at their schools to coach teams and lead athletics programs, to come together and celebrate each other’s achievements and hard work.

Two grade 12 Windermere Secondary School students are enacting positive change, one small act of kindness at a time. Jason Chong and Michael Luu, attended WE Day this past fall, and felt that they needed to do something after the experience. What resulted was Windermere Random Acts of Kindness (WRAK) — a new initiative aimed towards spreading kindness and compassion in the community.
