Tucked away in the corner of the Tupper Life Skills classrooms is a small but growing garden of plants. Right now the garden is packed with micro-greens, salad greens, wheat grass, snow peas and soy beans.

On Friday, February 20 over 200 students throughout the Vancouver School District will congregate at Langara College for the annual Vancouver District Science Fair (VDSF). With over 100 outstanding projects representing grade 7 to 12 students from nearly 20 schools in Vancouver, the event promises to be a large spectacle that demonstrates what young scientific minds can do with creativity.

A group of Britannia Secondary Business Education students recently competed in the 2015 Junior Achievement of BC Innovation Jam competition, held at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel. This business competition featured twenty high schools from across the province developing a business idea that had a social mission.

Kitchener and Queen Mary elementary schools recently went bow to bow in a high stakes competition at Byng pool.

As a part of Skills Canada, Grade 6/7s students from Lord Kitchener and Queen Mary Elementary Schools and Grade 8s from Lord Byng Secondary took on the challenge of designing, building, and sailing cardboard boats.

On January 16, hundreds of students flocked through Van Tech’s cafeteria to learn more about the trades. Booths were set up advertising BCIT, VCC and a variety of other VSB ACE IT programs including the culinary arts, carpentry, fashion, hairdressing and Tupper Tech programs.

Like many Vancouver students, Francisco Gaspar took some time to travel after high school. After visiting New Zealand and Australia, he accepted a position to work in a Bolivian orphanage where he spent 18 months taking care of abandoned babies, as well as children of all ages. At first he struggled, confronted with the harsh realities those young children faced.
