Vancouver School Board and Secretary Treasurer David Green are pleased to announce a reorganization of the Finance Department. Two Assistant Secretary Treasurers and two new managers will replace the previous director of finance and supervisor positions.

“This reorganization will build capacity to enhance the district’s financial planning and reporting processes,” says Green. “The positions were created from a reassessment of financial management roles, giving us an opportunity to strengthen and add stability to our finance department.”

VSB welcomes Shehzad Somji to the role of Assistant Secretary Treasurer – Financial Services effective April 3.  Somji will be responsible for managing the budgeting, accounting and financial reporting affairs of the district. Lisa Landry was promoted to the Assistant Secretary Treasurer position in December from her previous position of Director of Finance. With the reorganization, Landry will take on the new role of Assistant Secretary Treasurer – District Services. In this role she will continue to expand her leadership work in the operational aspects of the district to provide a high level of financial oversight and improved efficiencies. Landry, a Chartered Professional Accountant for 20 years, has worked in a number of areas in the public sector. Prior to joining VSB, she was General Manager of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for the Resort Municipality of Whistler, where she steered her department through the 2010 Winter Olympics and wrote a five-year plan that received the Government Finance Officers Association budget presentation award.

“I am really looking forward to working closely with both Assistant Secretary Treasurers in a team structure of mutual support to lead the district in all aspects of financial management and planning,” added Green. “The appointments of Lisa and Shehzad give us the skills and industry we need to build on our efforts to enhance VSB’s financial position in support of students.”

Green also announced the promotion of Helen Yee to the position of Manager of Accounting, Financial Reporting and Compliance, and the promotion of Will Hsu to the position of Manager of Budgeting, Forecasting and Planning.

“Helen and Will started at the VSB on the same day and have developed a strong working relationship which will contribute to the overall success of the new team in Finance," says Green. "I am looking forward to them taking on these new leadership roles.”
