VSB Staff Speak at ITA Conference

Community, Programs, Schools & Students

Karen Larsen, VSB Career Programs coordinator, Johnson Quon, a VSB painter and Karen Blake, a VSB teacher were invited to speak at the Industry Training Authority (ITA) Youth Day on November 25.

ITA Youth Day brings together 150 educators and employers from across BC who support youth in trades and apprenticeship.

Larsen and Quon spoke about the annual VSB “Journey into the Trades” event. The highly successful event has eight young red seal trades people, all graduates of VSB schools, tell other youth the story of their success in trades. Each year about 400 Grade 10 students attend. This year’s event is planned for January 27th, at Magee Secondary School.

For ITA Youth Day, Blake designed activities to accompany the ITA’s Youth guide. She shared with fellow educators how the activities are intended to introduce Grade 10 students to first-choice careers in trades.
