FIFA World Cup 2026: What families and students need to know about school travel
As Vancouver welcomes the excitement of FIFA World Cup 2026, the city will host seven matches beginning this week. Families and adult learners are encouraged to plan ahead, as matches on June 18 and June 24 fall on school days and may lead to increased traffic, road closures and longer travel times.
Everyone is encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider walking, cycling, rolling or taking transit – especially those near BC Place Vancouver, FIFA training sites or the FIFA Fan Festival.
With increased activity and more visitors expected across the city, this is also an opportunity to remind everyone about everyday safety practices, including being aware of surroundings, travelling with others when appropriate and following established school procedures.
