As the grads of 2020 embark on the next chapter in their lives, everyone at the Vancouver School District wants to say congratulations!
Although celebrations looked different this year due to the pandemic, they were no less significant, marking the incredible achievements of thousands of students. The weeks leading up to graduation included shout outs (and pizza) from celebrities like Vancouver-born actor – and Kitsilano Secondary alumna – Ryan Reynolds, as well as a declaration of “Grad Week” by Premier John Horgan. People across the province came together in a cheer for grads on the evening of Saturday, June 20, showing support for students navigating the challenges brought on by COVID-19 in addition to their academic accomplishments.
From physically distanced ceremonies with staggered arrival times for students to virtual celebrations, staff at the District’s schools worked hard to come up with alternative plans, determined to make sure their students felt celebrated during this important rite of passage.
Check out this video of snapshots from celebrations. Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
