The Vancouver School District’s elementary Mandarin Bilingual choice program for Grade 4 to 7 students will move to Trudeau Elementary beginning in September 2020.
The program is currently based at Jamieson Elementary, but due to the growth in the Jamieson catchment area and the need to accommodate in-catchment Jamieson Elementary students, the program needs a new home.
There continues to be a high demand for the Mandarin Bilingual program, and by relocating the choice program it enables the District to restore it to its original size of five classes. This allows for a stronger and more robust program and also creates a more vibrant and full school community at Trudeau Elementary.
After comprehensive engagement with both impacted school communities as well as with the broader parent community regarding the implementation process, Trudeau Elementary will phase in the choice program over four years, with a Grade 4/5 class beginning in the 2020-2021 school year.
Current students enrolled in the program at Jamieson Elementary will continue in their studies at the school until they complete Grade 7 to provide stability for the students and their families.
Parents of Grade 4 and 5 students interested in applying to the program for September 2020 can contact the principal at Trudeau Elementary, Angela Hughes at email@example.com.
