Tis the season to be giving! Every year, the Vancouver School District is proud to support the United Way Campaign. This year, the campaign runs from November 27, 2019 to January 31, 2020. There have been a variety of events to support this year's campaign, including:
The Annual Pancake Breakfast:
The pancake breakfast was held in the cafeteria at the Education Centre on Wednesday November 27, where the senior management and District management teams flipped pancakes for staff. All of the funds collected went towards the campaign.
The Annual Barbeque:
The District Workshop Barbeque was held on Friday, December 6. There was lots of food, prizes and an amazing atmosphere for staff to raise funds for a good cause. Check out some of the highlights on our Twitter.
The Annual International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) and VSB Operations Breakfast:
Thanks to IUOE and VSB Operations, the fundraiser saw a huge turnout on Monday, December 23 at Churchill Secondary. Staff attended the event on their own time to raise money for the charity.
The United Way supports healthy, caring, and inclusive communities. The Vancouver School District has supported their annual campaign since 1991 and in total has raised $1,633,574.11 for the community.
In Vancouver, the United Way specifically supports a range of activities through community partners which directly impact our students, such as funds that support provision of our Out of School Time programs. These include sports, arts, technology, and leadership activities offered at more than 75 sites across the District.
With their funding of community support programs, the United Way helps ensure our students are able to attend school secure, fed, and ready to learn. Additionally, funding from the United Way enables the District to offer a Strong Start program for refugee families with young children. Find out more about the Campaign on the United Way website.
The District would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for your on-going and generous commitment over the past several years for the United Way. Looking to make an online donation? Find out more here: https://www.uwlm.ca/donate/
