As we all mourn the loss of a family in London, Ontario believed by police to have been the target of an intentional hit-and-run, the Vancouver School District stands with the Muslim community. Hate and discrimination have no place in our society, including our schools.
This incident demonstrates there is still much work to do to ensure everyone feels safe in their communities, free to be who they are, and to practice their religion without fear.
At the Vancouver School District, we deeply value the diversity of backgrounds, experiences and faiths of our school communities. We strive – and will continue to strive – to ensure every individual feels welcomed, accepted, and valued. We are stronger together.
If you would like help to cope with grief and any other emotions you may feel following this incident, there are resources available. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your teacher or school administrator. We are here for you and will continue to move forward toward a place where all feel safe and celebrated for who they are.
