In-person learning for secondary students will be increased for the fourth quarter, which begins on April 26, 2021.

Health and safety continue to be a top priority for planned changes to the fourth quarter. The District has reviewed and analyzed feedback from staff, parents, and students, as well as attendance and achievement data in Q1, Q2 and Q3 to guide decision-making. The District has also focused on the mental health and well-being of students when making these adjustments and remains committed to student choice and educational access for marginalized and vulnerable students by supporting both remote and in-person learning. Accordingly, changes to the secondary schedule will minimize the disruption to the schedule and provide for continuity in structure and routine for students, families and staff.

Effective April 26, 2021, the District will safely increase in-person learning for students by making the following adjustments:

  • Maximize the amount of in-person learning time to two hours and 45 minutes every day for all grade 8 and 9 courses
  • Increase in-person learning time for students in grades 10 through 12 to two hours and 45 minutes two days per week, and one hour and 45 minutes, three days per week
  • Allow any student wanting to attend school all day, to do so
  • Continue to work collaboratively with families to support those students struggling with their overall mental and well-being

The new modifications to the secondary model were made possible by administrators, teachers and staff who have worked tirelessly to support students this year and plan for next year; in addition to the students and families who have provided feedback and have been patient as the District navigates this unusual year.

There is more work to be done before these adjustments are implemented. More detailed information will be shared with families after spring break.
