VSB seeks public input about its education plan
Vancouver School Board launches education planning process
Vancouver, B.C. — Vancouver School Board chair Carmen Cho announces the launch of a process designed to create a new education plan for the school district today.
The new education plan will include the goals and objectives for the Vancouver School Board for the next five years. It will be the District’s roadmap to lead to improved outcomes for students.
“The Vancouver School Board wants to hear the expectations and aspirations of all Vancouver citizens for the development of a plan that will guide the Vancouver School Board from 2022 to 2026,” says Cho.
The Board invites anyone with an interest in Vancouver’s public schools to respond to a brief survey. “Whether you have children or grandchildren in Vancouver schools or not, we want to hear from you. Vancouver schools are preparing the next generation of citizens with the educational foundation they need to succeed,” adds Cho.
The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete and responses are anonymous. Visit edplan2026.vsb.bc.ca to share your input.
The survey opens Monday, September 27, 2021, and closes Monday, October 11, 2021.
The education plan will be the basis for operational planning and will also help the Board to make decisions about the allocation of resources with a commitment to strive toward the plan’s specific goals and objectives.
The District’s current strategic five-year plan was crafted in 2016 and will govern the District’s efforts until the end of 2021 school year. The implementation of the education plan under construction will begin in September 2022 and guide the District’s work to June 2026.
“We know the importance of public input as we set out a clear and shared vision for the future of public education in Vancouver. We are therefore asking students, families, staff and the public to share their voices and perspectives for Vancouver schools moving forward. This is paramount as we set out a clear and shared vision for the future of public education in Vancouver,” says Cho.
As a large and diverse school district, it is important to reflect on the current and changing landscape of Vancouver and its students and to develop a strong plan that will ensure strategic navigation of the changing world and opportunities ahead.
The District is committed to a transparent and accountable community engagement process as the plan develops. A broad range of voices and perspectives will help create a plan that reflects the diverse needs of the District.
