Dear Eric Hamber School Community,
I wanted to share an update with you regarding the Eric Hamber Seismic Replacement School Project.
In September, I shared with you that the Ministry of Education had approved additional Neighbourhood Learning Centre (NLC) space for the Hamber project, that will be used to incorporate an auditorium into the new replacement school. Since then, the Hamber project team has continued to work with shortlisted proponent teams to select one to design and build the replacement school with an auditorium.
After a thorough review process with the shortlisted teams, I am pleased to inform you that Bird Construction has been selected to design and build the Hamber replacement school. As noted in my September letter, the project is anticipated to be completed in September 2023.
The Vancouver School District and Bird Construction entered into a project contract earlier today. I shared this information with the Seismic Advisory Group (SAG) and wanted to share this important project milestone with our school community as soon as possible. I would like to inform you that the construction contract value for the Hamber replacement school is approximately $92 million. This includes the funds that were approved for the NLC space that is designated for a new auditorium and the 69-space child care centre funded by the City of Vancouver.
As we move ahead, we will continue to work closely with the SAG. This group includes staff, parents, students and District representatives. I will also continue to keep you informed of any seismic project developments and updates as they become available. You can also review the progress of the project at govsb.ca/hamber.
Please reach out to me at the school if you have any questions.
Marea Jensen, Principal
