Library / Learning Commons

Our library is a great place for students to learn. The library is open throughout the school day. For more details on its schedule contact our school office.

Mme Renzullo and Mme Vis would like to welcome you to the Library.  Our French and English collections contain a wide variety of wonderful books for all levels of readers.  Please come in and browse as new titles are always being added and we would love to help you find what you are looking for...

You can search our catalogue, place books on hold and access our databases from home by signing in with your student number.  Please visit

Checking Your Library Account
We encourage all students and parents/guardians of younger children to check their school library accounts on a regular basis. This helps students keep track of their library books.

By checking your account, you can find

  • Which books you have checked out.
  • How many books you have checked out.
  • When your books are due.
  • If you have any lost or overdue books.
  • In addition, you can create and save lists of books that interest you.

To access your account, follow these steps:
2. Find Hastings School and click on it
3. Click on “Login” button
3. Type your BCeSIS/MyEdBC number and “student” for the password
4. Once you are signed in you can search our catalogue using keyword, title, author, series, etc.

Databases, eBooks and Videos
The Vancouver School Board provides all students with access to a “digital library” filled with databases, e-books, and video services. (A database is an organized collection of information;  an e-book is an electronic book).

Students can find information to do research and complete assignments, read and interact with e-books, and watch educational videos.
Recommended electronic resources for elementary students include:
·        BookFlix
·        The Canadian Encyclopedia
·        Learn360
·        National Geographic Kids
·        NFB (National Film Board of Canada)
·        The Province
·        World Book

Our Library Club monitors made up of senior students contribute their time to help our library run smoothly.    In addition, we always welcome parent volunteers if you are interested in helping out, even if just for a short time.

The library is also home to a class set of Sphero SPRKSs used to teach some basic block coding to the upper intermediate students who then share their knowledge with other classrooms.
