John Oliver Secondary has a NEW Outdoor classroom! Nestled to the side of the gravel field and beside the Take-A-Hike portables, the outdoor space looks impressive. These 16 large (around 2500lbs) bench stones and 1 taller podium stone were installed on Wednesday. Teachers are excited to try out the space and figure out how to best utilize it to enhance the typical classroom experience. Federal grant money for Covid-19 outdoor spaces was used to purchase this wonderful space and has also provided us with some supplies such as whiteboard easels, projectors, outdoor games, and some items yet to be purchased. We are loving the most recent addition to our site. I would also like to thank the VSB grounds crew for a seamless install.
The outdoor classroom was built in a circle to honor Indigenous culture and ways of learning as this outdoor space was built on the traditional territories of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh Coast Salish peoples.
