Wednesday, February 26th is Pink Day across Canada! All students are invited to wear pink in some form or other to send a message to each other and the world that bullying is not okay!
Pink Day is not just about "bullying" in general. As you may know, Pink Day started in Nova Scotia after a boy was bullied for being gay and wearing his favourite pink shirt on the first day of school. The following day, students wore pink to school in his support, and the tradition has continued ever since!
A key message for the JQ community is that we support boys who choose to wear pink and we do not support bullying of any kind – between children, between adults and children, and between adults! Please take a moment to think about how you model respect for others in your life and how you teach that message to your children and the people around you.
We are proud to be a welcoming school for LGBTQ people and recognize we all have work to do in making every student feel safe and respected for who they are, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation.
Thank you, JQ!
