May 28, 2020:  The Engineers and Geoscientists BC Foundation offers scholarships for graduating high school students

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE Do you know a student entering an engineering or geoscience program in fall 2020? The Engineers and Geoscientists BC Foundation offers scholarships for graduating high school students starting these programs. Six entrance scholarships, valued at $2,500 each, and one transfer scholarship, valued at $1,000, are available. Applicants must be graduating from a BC secondary school in 2020 and entering one of the following programs: Engineering degree (B.Eng., B.A.Sc., or similar) at a BC university Engineering transfer (diploma, certificate, or similar) at a Canadian university or college Geoscience degree (B.Sc. in earth sciences, physical geography, environmental geoscience, etc.) at a BC university. Confratellanza Scholarships

The scholarships are open to this year's graduating secondary school students planning to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution for the first time in 2020. To be eligible for this scholarship candidates must 1) be of Italian origin i.e. as having at least one parent or grandparent of direct Italian descent, 2) be living in a city or municipality within the 21-member Greater Vancouver Regional District, 3) have an academic standing sufficient to qualify for entry into the post-secondary institution of their choice, and 4) submit a completed application form with supporting documentation post-marked no later than June 15, 2020.

The Kindness Foundations Scholarships 

Please Note: Given the current COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant closing of schools, The Kindness Foundation of Canada has extended the application deadline for the Nadine Marshall Memorial and the How to Do Some Good Scholarships.  The new application deadline will be May 31, 2020. Applications will also be accepted by email at president@kindnessfoundation.com Two scholarships open for applications Nadine Marshall Scholarship (Spring 2020) This scholarship has been established to honour the initiative, commitment, enthusiasm and example of Nadine Marshall, co-founder of The KindActs Association of B.C., recently renamed The Kindness Foundation of Canada. Nadine’s unwavering belief in the power of kindness as an agent for positive change in our world has sustained her and allowed her ideas to develop into programs and KindActs to grow and evolve. Most importantly this belief, embodied in her daily walk through life, is a powerful example, and source of motivation for all that have had the pleasure to know her. Scholarship:  The recipient will receive a scholarship of $1000.00 to assist in their post-secondary education. 

How to Do Some Good Scholarship (Spring 2020) This scholarship has been established to support the initiative, community-mindedness, enthusiasm, and commitment of a Vancouver High School graduate.  It is established in honour of our community partner, How to Do Some Good, whose founder Mandy Pui, is also a board member of The Kindness Foundation. How to Do Some Good is a collaborative and inclusive group of individuals giving back to the community in Vancouver and Victoria, Canada. One of the purposes of The Kindness Foundation is to support registered charities and community causes by developing and organizing volunteer events, and recruiting members of the public across any demographic to provide social good in the areas of; the environment, children and youth, families, the aged, those living with disabilities, or providing public amenities. The Kindness Foundation and How to Do Some Good work in alignment to organize these community events to connect and give back to the community and to promote kindness. It is our hope that the recipient of this scholarship will be enabled to grow their personal commitment to service in their community, empowered to implement a service project, and continue their education to become a well-rounded, kind and contributing member of society. BC School Sports Scholarships Please remind students of the upcoming May 4th BCSS scholarship deadline.   Covid-19 For those student-athletes who intended to participate in a spring season of play activity to be eligible, participation in their grade 11 year will be considered as a suitable alternative for spring sports. BCSS is pleased to announce the renewal of the following scholarships: BCSS Zone Scholarships, Dave Gifford Memorial Scholarships, Bert & Quartermaine Badminton Scholarship and the BC Dairy scholarship. $500 Gordon Anderson Memorial Bursaries - We have been awarding three yearly $500 Gordon Anderson Memorial Bursaries to Vancouver Secondary grade 12 students for a number of years.  We usually mail the application forms to the school, but due to COVID-19 we would like to send a link to our bursary applications electronically.

Please find below a link to our application form for three $500 bursaries that our Vancouver Firefighter Charities is offering to graduating students from Vancouver Public Secondary Schools.  These bursaries are being offered to students in good standing who have contributed strongly to the school community.

Rotary Scholarship Application Rotary was founded in 1905 by four business men in Chicago, Illinois. Today, there are more than 1,200,000 Rotarians, business men and women, in 31,000 clubs in 166 countries. Rotarians are committed to community programs, many of which are directed at youth. The Rotary Club of Vancouver, Arbutus, offers a scholarship to a local high school student each year. The principal motto of Rotary is "Service Above Self", and is applied to areas of community and international service. The information provided in this application will allow us to select 3 candidates from Killarney to be put forward to the Rotary Club for this prestigious scholarship. 2019/20 Provincial Scholarships Program

Applications are being accepted until February 28, 2020 for the BC Excellence and the Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarships.

Updates to the Scholarship Requirements

With no course-based Language Arts 12 Provincial Examinations for 2019/20 school year, the exam is no longer included as a scholarship requirement. For 2020/21 and beyond, the potential use of the Grade 12 Literacy Assessment in scholarship allocation is still under review.

Other Scholarships

District/Authority Scholarships continue to be available in 2019/20 for 5,500 B.C. students recognized by their school for excellence in their chosen area of interest or strength. Allocations and other administration information will be updated January 2020. Winners must be reported to the Ministry by June 30, 2020.

The Ministry’s BC Achievement Scholarships will also be awarded to the top 8,000 graduates of 2019/20.

LORAN SCHOLARSHIPS - Deadline:  October 9, 2019  - I have sent an email to you with the  Loran Scholarship application information attached. The school can sponsor up to three students. If you want to be considered as a sponsored student, you must fill out the data collection form and  submit it by October 9th 3pm.  You can also apply directly if you don't get sponsored.
