Principal's Message September 21: UNCLAIMED LOCKER ITEMS

image description

Dear King George Students and Families,

We have sent all Grades 9-12 families an email about unclaimed locker items from 2019-2020:

In June 2020 we collected the remaining items left in student lockers, and we have been holding those items awaiting claim for the past three months. If you believe that you have locker items you'd like to claim, please email Mr. Godfrey to arrange an appointment. Do not come into the office without an appointment.

Anything remaining with us after Friday, September 25th will be recycled or otherwise disposed of.

We are into week two of the 2020-2021 school year, and students are already 10% of the way into the two courses they are taking! Students arrived for the new flipped session of 1-2 face-to-face classes, on time and ready to go.

Thank you to all our students and families. Students came ready with masks and smiling eyes, prepared to engage. Just a reminder that this is another one week session; then it flips back to the first 1-1 face-to-face for two weeks.

We ask all students continue to come prepared, equipped with a face mask for the times they are in hallways and other common areas. We have issued two reusable masks to each students. While face masks are not required in classrooms, they are required in hallways, common areas and any areas where physical distancing is not possible - outside the classroom cohort.

We also ask students to sanitize hands as they enter the building and sanitize or wash hands upon entering the classroom, too.

At 9 AM on Tuesday, September 8, the My Education BC Family Portal opened. Students and parents can go in to see the student schedule.

Note the 1-1 classes on on the 10th (Grade 8) or the 1-1 classes on the 11th (Gr. 9-12) will be an orientation and will be for Periods 1-1 only, with each class split into two separate face to face sessions. Check the information in the family portal to see if you attend the "A" morning session, or the "B" afternoon session. However, it is important to note that help getting on the Teams comes from the subject teacher, and assistance with Family Portal passwords can be found on this website, and if that fails, please call our school office 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Students and families with technology issues or challenges should be in touch with Mr. Taylor or Mr. Godfrey. Please see our post on this website re Start Up information for additional information about limited, possible laptop support for families without any computer at home.

See the following information about first "quarter" classes and schedules:

At King George we look forward to welcoming our staff and students back to school. Safety, and a focus on teaching and learning governs our planning. Mr. Godfrey and I will do our best for the students and families at King George, and I know that our dedicated teaching and support staff will join us in this effort.

Beginning on September 14th and in accordance with the Ministry approved District return to school plan, we will operate the school year in four "quarters" of two classes each for approximately 10 weeks per quarter.

Each student will do two course maximum for approximately ten weeks, before changing to two new courses for another ten weeks, and so on. There'll be four "quarters" of two courses each, with each class a combination of one or two weeks in-class followed by one or two weeks of at-home learning in that same class, and then back in the school for face to face. Please be patient as we all learn this new system together.

As we open this new unprecedented school year I want you all to know how blessed I feel to be a part of the King George Community, and I look forward to building strong relationships in the new school year.

At King George I intend to keep the welfare of our students as my priority, and I'll be looking for every opportunity to support and work with students, parents and staff as we get through this together.

The King George students are some of the most earnest and delightful students I have ever met. I will be listening carefully to them, and supporting them so that King George is the school our students and families really want it to be: a safe, inspirational and engaging school for all our students.

Please keep checking the King George School website for updates, and also see the VSB website for District announcements as they come out https://www.vsb.bc.ca/Pages/default.aspx .

Feel free to contact me on matters that concern you, and if I cannot answer your question or address your concern, I’ll find the right people to do so.

Regards,

Geoff Taylor
