Week of November 18 – 22

Hello Everyone,

Pineapple Express! If any Vancouver resident did not know what this meant before this weekend, they certainly know that term now. It was a great weekend for couches, hot chocolate, rubber boots and the odd mud-loving soccer player.

PAC Movie Night

This week we have an exciting event in store for us. It is our first PAC movie night of the year. Parent volunteers have organized a family friendly movie evening for this coming Friday from 6 – 8 pm. There will be juice and pizza and perhaps some other refreshments for sale. If you are interested in helping out at the event (baked goods, set up, clean up etc.) please contact our PAC chair Loree at loreecampbell@shaw.ca . Everyone is welcome, but please remember that all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Here is a message from Ms. Pendry:

Volunteers Needed!

On Wednesday November 27th from 9:30-12:30, our school will be hosting the BC regional competition of the Kids Lit Quiz, a literature competition for avid readers ages 10-13 from over 1000 schools around the world. In a nutshell, teams of four answer 100 questions over 10 categories based on any children's book published in English. We are seeking volunteers as guest markers, for data entry or to help run our guest author pop-up shop. Local author Holman Wang is our Regional Quizmaster and our 2019 Guest Author Team includes Jeremy Tankard, Stacey Matson, Lee Edward Fodi and Nancy Vo. Vancouver Kidsbooks is also a major sponsor.

In the spring, I organize an in-school MTP version of the quiz for K-7 so many of our students are familiar with the event. We will be have 2-3 teams representing MTP (thank you PAC!) along with over 30 other public and independent school teams from the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

This is a truly fun and exciting event that celebrates readers in such a unique way . The sights and sounds of teams of readers enthusiastically collaborating and cheering when they hear their correct answers is a heartwarming experience I have not seen anywhere else. Please contact me directly if you are able to volunteer your time at klqcanada.bc@gmail.com

BAKE SALE FUNDRAISER

Divisions 1 & 2 are holding a bake sale this MONDAY NOVEMBER 18th at lunch to raise money to send a 3rd school team to the Kids Lit Quiz competition. Our PAC is funding 2 teams (thank you PAC) and enthusiasm is keen for a third team. Any extra money raised will be used as a legacy gift to send future teams to the competition. Thank you for your support!

Have a great week,

Jonathan Weresch
