Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Happy Halloween. For those children who came to school in costumes I would like to thank the families for all the creative, safe, and fun ideas used to dress up the children. I, for one, felt very safe at school with so many superheroes roaming the hallways; we also were very privileged to have many royals grace our school and fortunately the slithering, buzzing insects and creepy animals were mostly benign. It has been a fun day so far.
Here are some upcoming events
Kindergarten registration opens for in-catchment children. If you or anyone you know in our catchment are looking to attend Kindergarten next September please go to this site to find out more about registration https://www.vsb.bc.ca/schools/...
Photo re-take day. Please see a separate email for those families who would like photo retakes. We have a list of students who missed the original day and they will be photographed first. For those families who would like a second try for a perfect pose we ask that you fill in the permission form sent out via email.
Diwali. All across the world people are celebrating Diwali on this day. People illuminate their homes with lamps, candles and lanterns, share treats and celebrate light as it dispels darkness. If you would like a little bit of info to share with your family, here is a National Geographic video for you to enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrrW3rO51ak
PAC Meeting (7:00 pm to 8:30 pm). Our PAC usually meets on the second Thursday of every month, however this November, because of Remembrance Day, we are meeting one week earlier. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you are a family member of a child at Mount Pleasant and would like to meet and discuss our little school please check out the PAC website (https://mtp-pac.ca/ ) and request a Zoom invite. See you then.
Upcoming in November
Remembrance Day activities in school. In the past we have had school wide assemblies. This year will be a bit different. The commemoration will be with fewer students together, but we will try to make it just as meaningful. The victims of war are many – soldiers, children, families, refugees, communities. On this day we want to honour those who sacrificed their lives and we will commit to peace in the future.
Remembrance Day – No School. As we all observe this day either at home or at a public ceremony please also remember the many Indigenous veterans who fought for Canada in many wars. Here is a brief message from RoseAnne Archibald, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. https://globalnews.ca/video/7456479/remembrance-day-2020-ontario-regional-chief-honours-indigenous-veterans
Professional Development Day – no school for students. On this day the Vancouver School District is hosting an Indigenous Focus professional development day. All teachers and support staff will be taking part.
