Carleton Principals Message

May, 29th 2020

We are looking forward to moving into our restart plan for Carleton Elementary and I personally am so excited to hear children’s laughter in the school again! Next Monday June 1, 2020 our next phase begins.  All families were asked to complete a survey sent out last week indicating a voluntary return to school on a modified schedule.  Those families who have indicated that their children will be participating in this modified schedule have been provided with information specific to their classroom cohort.

At the moment, we have been able to accommodate all Kindergarten to Grade 5 students on site Mondays and Tuesdays, and all Grade 6/7 students on Wednesdays.  Children of essential service workers have the option of attending 5 days a week for the month of June.  We have created our plans based on the numbers received from the survey and phone calls made by our office. If you have not thus far said yes to returning to school, please do not send your child on Monday.  If you would like to send your child/ren, you must contact the office to confirm we have space within our protocols for your child to attend.

For those families who are coming back next week please adhere clearly to the protocols that are in place.  You will notice that there will be indicators outside that enable physical distancing.  Parents and visitors are not permitted inside the schoolplease call the office or email if you have a question or concern. Pick up and drop off or your child/ren is at the designated areas your classroom teacher has communicated with you. If your child is taking the bus it will be leaving promptly at 8:40am from the Carleton site and arrive at 3:10pm.  There is only one bus, please arrive on-time.

As part of our protocols, the water fountains will not be in use.  If your child is coming to school it is important they have a water bottle. The bottle filling station will be available to re-fill water bottles.

As of June 1, the playground structures will be open for use.  Families are able to use the playground after school hours.  Please respect that the school site is for school use only, between 9:00 and 3:00 until the end of June.

If you have any school library books to return please go to the Library doors off Nanaimo Street.  A box will be outside to put the books.  All Library books need to be returned by June 8th.

Please refer to the VSB’s COVID-19 Updates page for the most up to date information regarding COVID-19 and VSB schools. For further information regarding COVID-19, please click on the following links:

I wish everyone an amazing weekend and I look forward to seeing some of you on Monday.
