Southlands Elementary School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme World School.
All students at Southlands Participate in the Primary Years Program (PYP), which is an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary programme that is designed to foster the development of the whole child. PYP students are encouraged to develop the ten traits of the Learner Profile.
"The aim of the IB Programme is to develop internationally minded people who help to create a better and more peaceful world." (IBO.org 2013)
Structured, concept-based inquiry is the main form of learning in the PYP programme. Our programme of inquiry is organized around six transdisciplinary themes, and the written curriculum incorporates five essential elements: concepts, approaches to learning, attitudes, action, and knowledge. The PYP integrates the British Columbia Ministry of Education curriculum into a framework of inquiry with a global perspective.
