Community School Teams

Community Schools Team

 The Van Tech Community Schools Team is comprised of our Youth and Family Worker and Community Schools Coordinator. Our team is based out of Van Tech Secondary’s room 803B and the B.A.S.E (Building A Safe Environment) Space beside the cafeteria.

 Our Family of Schools comprises of Queen Alexandra Elementary, Matthew Begbie Elementary, Thunderbird Elementary, Laura Secord Elementary, Queen Victoria Annex, Chief Maquinna, and Mount Pleasant Elementary and the students at Van Tech Secondary School.

Van Tech students can come by to our room to learn about volunteer and leadership opportunities in the school and community and find free snacks.

Thursday evenings - 2106 Commercial Drive 
Make It! is an art therapy program for youth ages 16-30 that struggle with mental health and well being. Youth drop-in to create art, build peer relationships, and connect to community resources.

One evening every 2 weeks, 6:00pm-8:00pm, virtually and in the community
The Youth Advisory Committee provides young people a forum to voice their needs and gives them an opportunity to make a difference in their community through volunteerism. Projects vary from fund raising ideas to supporting social issues in the community.

Sundays at 2131 Renfrew, FHNH kitchen
Yes Chef is a youth employment program operating out of Frog Hollow’s kitchen targeting newcomer youth (permanent residents and convention refugees, i.e. they have been accepted and can now apply for PR). Youth overcoming barriers to employment learn life skills and food production skills through weekly cooking sessions.

Work BC services for youth ages 16-30 at 2106 Commercial Drive for youth not enrolled in full time school or who are in their final year of full-time schooling and identify a disability (can be self-identified).

Looking to learn new craft skills (sewing, knitting etc), practice them or teach other youth? Want to mix the ability to create with your passion for social justice and change?  We will knit hats and socks for people (or penguins!) in need, spread good messages around the neighborhood and create a safe space to share ideas. No prior crafting experience necessary!

Join us for this 3-part workshop series focusing on communication – how to be assertive, how to put forward your wants and needs, and how to handle difficult conversations. This program offered by ShEvalesco targets female-identified youth ages 12-18, and is free for all participants! Snacks will be provided.

From budgeting, to banking basics, to how interest actually works, to reading a credit card bill, to answering the age-old question: where did all that money from my paycheque go? his program offered by ShEvalesco targets female-identified youth ages 12-18, and is free for all participants!
