David Lloyd George Elementary Newsletter September 13, 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this message finds you well. Here are some important updates and reminders for the upcoming weeks:
Thank You! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone—parents, staff, and especially our wonderful students—for a fantastic first week back in classes. Your support and enthusiasm have made the start of this school year truly special.
DLG PAC Hot Lunch Program. David Lloyd George Elementary Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) will organize hot lunches every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday this school year. Funds raised through the hot lunch program will be used to support the teachers and children of DLG. Please see the attachment letter (link below) for more information about this program. (If you have any questions please send them to our PAC at pac.dlg@gmail.com ) DLG_hot_lunch_letter_202425.pdf
Playground Repairs Please note that the small blue playground on Cartier St. has now been repaired. Thank you parents for keeping your children out of the fenced area for past few weeks. A big thank you to the Vancouver School Board playground repair crew who have made sure the space is safe to continue playing.
Verification Sheets Next week, you will receive verification sheets. Kindly update your phone number and contact information, and check if the existing information is correct. Please return a completed sheet for each child.
Professional Development Day This coming Friday is a professional development day. There will be no school for students as our staff will be engaged in learning new teaching strategies.
National Truth and Reconciliation Day September 30th is National Truth and Reconciliation Day. There will be no school on this day. We will hold an assembly for students on September 27th to honour this important day.
School Fees School fees are now posted on School Cash Online. You can visit our website and click the “Pay Fees” button at the top to make your payment.
Meet The Teacher Week We are excited to announce “Meet The Teacher Week” during the week of September 23rd. Teachers will be hosting events for you to meet them. Please watch for an email from your child’s teacher with details about the event.
Sports Teams This year, we are thrilled to have junior soccer teams and a Cross Country team. A big thank you to the staff and parent volunteers for making this possible. Please note the following message from the Vancouver School Board re. Cross Country: This year, there will be a new format for students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 in the cross country meets. All K-3 students will now run with their peers in the same grade, without differentiating their gender. They will be racing based on their grade and heat number according to school name*. This change supports our Education Plan and our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all students. Additionally, every student participating in these races will receive a participation ribbon to celebrate their effort and enthusiasm.
Grade 7 Parents Grade 7 parents, please check your emails. Earlier this week, you received a message with information regarding Grade 8 choice programs.
PAC Meeting Thank you to all the parents who attended our PAC meeting this past Wednesday. Special thanks to the executive team for their extra efforts in hosting and planning these meetings and parent-sponsored events at the school. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 8th.
Books For Breakfast. Books For Breakfast will start on Tuesday, September 24th at 8:15am. Books For Breakfast is a free weekly program held in our DLG Library where parents, caregivers and students come to the Library and enjoy muffins, juice, fresh fruit and reading books before school. We also have tea and coffee for the grownups. This is a primary-focussed program but everyone is welcome!
Mid-Autumn Festival This coming week, many families will be celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. We hope this is a joyous time for all.
Thank you once again for a great week. Have a safe and happy weekend!
Warm regards,
David Lloyd George Elementary School Administration
