🎉 Celebrating Community, Culture & the End of the School Year! 🎉

Hi DLG Families,

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, and it’s a great opportunity for us to reflect on how we learn and grow together. In schools, we’re not just teaching facts anymore—we’re learning how to teach and how to learn in ways that honour Indigenous knowledge and values. One of the tools we use is the First Peoples Principles of Learning—a short but powerful guide that helps us bring Indigenous ways of knowing into our classrooms. Check out the attached poster to see what it’s all about!

And here’s something truly remarkable: a group of youth from the Squamish Nation recently (this past week) performed their traditional “Bear Song” on Grouse Mountain—and just as they sang, the grizzlies came out! It’s a beautiful moment that reminds us of the deep connection between culture and the land we live on.

💐 Big Thank Yous!

  1. To Our Amazing Volunteers
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Volunteer Tea! It was such a lovely event, and we were thrilled to celebrate all the ways you’ve helped out this year. For those who couldn’t make it—please know we see you and appreciate you just as much!

  2. To Our Celebration Choir
Huge shoutout to our choir! These students gave up their lunch breaks throughout the year to rehearse and they brought music and joy to so many school events. This year you’ve helped make DLG feel even more like home.

  3. To Our PAC Superstars
Thanks to everyone who came to our final PAC meeting of the year. We’re so grateful to the outgoing executive for all their hard work, and we’re excited to welcome the new team. Your time and energy make a big difference!

📅 What’s Coming Up

🎓 Tuesday (10:45) – Grade 7 Leaving Ceremony
It’s time to celebrate our Grade 7s as they wrap up their DLG journey! This special event is just for them and their families. We’re proud of you and can’t wait to see what you do next!

💦 Wednesday – Water Day at Stanley Park
Get ready for a splash of fun! Many classes are heading to Stanley Park for a day of outdoor learning and play. Check your field trip forms for details, and reach out to your teacher if you have any questions.

📘 Wednesday – Report Cards Go Home
It’s report card day! If you’re new to BC’s school system and want a little help understanding how it all works, the Vancouver School Board has a great guide:

🎒 Thursday – Last Day of School!
Can you believe it? The school year is wrapping up! If your child still has items at school, please send them with a couple of extra bags so they can bring everything home.

Before the end of the school year we will be posting summer opportunities (available in our community) that you may want to take advantage of.  Please keep an eye out for messaging about this on this site.

Thanks for being such a wonderful part of the DLG community. Let’s finish the year strong—and have some fun while we’re at it!

Take care,

Jonathan Weresch
