Update on Removal of former DLG

Subject: Update on Removal of former DLG
Dear Families,
I hope you are all had a restful summer! As I mentioned in June, more details from the contractor have become available and I am able to provide an update regarding the demolition of the former David Lloyd George building.
Project status
We have been informed by the contractor that hazardous material removal will continue into the fall and be complete by December, 2025. This will be followed by building demolition and redevelopment of the area with a new basketball court, landscaped green space and walkways for the community to enjoy. The project completion date is anticipated to be June 2026, however, as with all projects of this nature, timelines are subject to change due to city permits, weather, and unexpected conditions etc.
Site and traffic plan
I’ve included an updated graphic (below) that shows the approximate fence line that will surround the construction area as well as truck access. As you can see from the graphic, the northern portion of the gravel field will be available for school use. We recognize this limits some outdoor space use for students and are working on alternative arrangements to support student activities as much as possible.
The main access for trucks to the site will be along the back alley that runs parallel to Hudson Street. The contractor has indicated that there will be decreased truck activity during school pick-up and drop-off times (8:30-9:30 am and 2:45 – 3:30 pm, school days).
Thank you in advance to the DLG school community for your patience and understanding. I know it will be temporarily inconvenient, however, we are looking forward to a redeveloped outdoor area that was once the old DLG building. As always, I will continue to provide updates when they become available, and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Weresch
