DLG Newsletter -- Week of September 28 - October 2
September 27, 2026
Hello Families and Friends of David Lloyd George Elementary,
This upcoming week is a special one for all of us as we recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.
Orange Shirt Day originated from the story of Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt was taken away on her first day at residential school. Wearing orange honours residential school survivors, remembers those who did not return home, and affirms our collective commitment that Every Child Matters.
We invite all students, staff, parents, and caregivers to wear orange on Tuesday. We also encourage families to have conversations at home about empathy, belonging, kindness, and the importance of affirming and celebrating everyone's culture and identity.
Thank you for partnering with us as we learn, reflect, and honour this important day together.

Looking Ahead
Books for Breakfast Returns!
Our popular Books for Breakfast program will begin again on Wednesday, October 7.
Led by our librarian Ms. Heap, along with Ms. Clements and Ms. Louie, this special program invites parents and children to spend time reading together in our library while enjoying muffins and juice.
Time: 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Location: School Library
We look forward to welcoming families back for this wonderful community-building activity.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Please note that on October 7 and October 8, students will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. to accommodate parent-teacher conferences.
More information about booking conference times will be shared shortly.
Some Other Items:
A Reminder About Student Pick-Up
Please help us keep our school safe.
If you need to pick up your child during the school day, please come to the office and sign your child out. Office staff will contact the classroom, and your child will come to meet you at the office.
We are working to limit non-staff adult access to classroom and learning areas whenever possible. This helps us maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and support in helping us keep David Lloyd George Elementary a safe place for everyone.
Please Help Keep Our Parking Lot Available for Staff
We ask families to please keep the staff parking lot clear during drop-off and pick-up times.
To help us be good neighbours and make the best use of limited parking, the lot is reserved for staff only. When staff are able to park on-site, they can spend more time preparing for students and supporting learning rather than searching for parking.
Thank you for helping us keep the parking lot available for staff and for supporting our school community.
Terry Fox Campaign
This is the final week to contribute to our Terry Fox fundraising campaign. Thank you to everyone who has already donated and supported this important cause. If you would still like to contribute, please use the donation link below:

A Note of Gratitude
As we wrap up our first month of school, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our students, families, staff, and the broader David Lloyd George community for helping make September such a smooth and successful start. The strong partnership between home and school is one of our greatest strengths, and it has been wonderful to see our students settling into their routines and reconnecting with friends and learning.
We are excited about the year ahead and hope that this positive start is a sign of many great things to come in the 2026-2027 school year.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community.
Have a wonderful week.
Warm regards,
Jonathan Weresch
Principal
