🏫 DLG Weekly Update: May 4 – 8

Hello DLG Community 👋,

We would like to thank our Student Council, Ms. Charlton, and Ms. Louie for organizing our first-ever Student Council Spring Festival 🌸🎉. Last Friday, our students had a wonderful time visiting the various stations, and the leadership shown by our older DLG students was exemplary. Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success!

🔴🌺 Red Dress Day & Community Acknowledgements – May 5

May 5 is Red Dress Day, a day to honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ people. This date is especially significant as it is the birthday of Lisa Marie Young, a 21‑year‑old Tla‑o‑qui‑aht woman who disappeared in 2002. Her case remains unsolved. Red Dress Day invites us to reflect, listen, and continue learning about how we can support justice, remembrance, and respect for Indigenous communities.

May 5 is also Cinco de Mayo 🇲🇽, a day celebrated by many in our community. We wish a happy and joyful celebration to all families who recognize this day and thank you for the cultural richness you bring to our school community.
