Dear DLG Families,

Shana Tova! We would like to extend our warmest wishes to all families celebrating Rosh Hashanah. May the new year bring health, happiness, and peace to you and your loved ones.

Thank you to everyone for a wonderful first week of school. It has been fantastic to see students reconnecting with friends, meeting staff, and settling back into school routines. We appreciate the support and patience of our families as we begin another exciting year at David Lloyd George Elementary.

Next week, students will be moving into their permanent classes. This year, DLG is proud to serve more than 420 students across 18 divisions. We are looking forward to a year filled with learning, growth, friendship, and community.

Terry Fox Run

Today, our school participated in our annual Terry Fox Run. We would like to thank all of the parents and family members who came out early to cheer on our students and support this special event.

Our students did an amazing job running for Terry and demonstrating perseverance, compassion, and community spirit.

Class Placements for Monday

We are looking forward to having students move into their permanent classes on Monday.

Before the end of the day on Monday, families will receive an email indicating their child's division and instructions for pick-up. Please watch for this message, as dismissal locations may be different from this past week.

We are excited to officially join our permanent classes and look forward to a wonderful year of learning together.

Important School Procedures and Reminders

School Hours and Supervision

School begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.

Students should not arrive more than 15 minutes before school begins or remain more than 15 minutes after dismissal unless they are participating in a supervised activity.

Please remember that before and after school supervision is limited. Families should ensure that students arrive and depart at appropriate times.

Before and After School Building Access

Students should not enter the building before or after school, even during rainy or snowy weather, unless directed by a staff member.

Teachers use this time to prepare lessons, organize materials, meet with colleagues, and support student learning. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a productive learning environment.

Reporting Student Absences and Lates

If your child will be absent or late, please notify the school by calling:

Prompt reporting helps us ensure student safety and maintain accurate attendance records.

Dress for Vancouver Weather

Students are expected to go outside at recess and lunch in almost all weather conditions.

As we all know, it rains frequently in Vancouver. Please ensure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather, including rain jackets, rain pants, rubber boots, and other rain gear when needed. Students who are prepared for the weather are able to enjoy outdoor play and stay comfortable throughout the day.

David Lloyd George Elementary follows Environment and Climate Change Canada (Environment Canada) weather advisories and warnings when making decisions about outdoor activities. Should an Orange (High Risk) weather warning be issued for our area, we will call an indoor day and keep students inside for recess and lunch periods.

Otherwise, students should expect to be outdoors during recess and lunch, even on rainy days. Please help your child come prepared for Vancouver's weather so they can participate fully and comfortably in outdoor activities.

Helmet Safety

There is a helmet law in our city.

Any student riding a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, rollerblades, or similar equipment to school must wear a properly fitted helmet.

Helmets help keep our students safe and reduce the risk of serious injury.

E-Bikes and E-Scooters

Provincial regulations require riders of e-bikes and e-scooters to be 16 years of age or older.

If a student brings an e-bike or e-scooter to school, it will be held in the office and must be picked up by a parent or guardian.

Wheels Must Be Walked on School Grounds

For everyone's safety, all bicycles, scooters, skateboards, and similar wheeled devices must be walked, not ridden, on school property between 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.

Thank you for helping keep our playgrounds, sidewalks, and entrances safe for everyone.

Cell Phones

In all British Columbia public elementary schools, including DLG, cell phones should not be used during the instructional day.

Between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.:

• Cell phones should remain off and out of sight.
• Phones should stay at home whenever possible.
• If brought to school, phones should remain in a student's backpack.
• Phones should not be carried on a student's person or kept in desks.

Please note that the school is not responsible for cell phones that are lost, stolen, or damaged.

Picking Up Students During the School Day

We understand that there are times when students need to leave school early.

If you need to pick up your child:

• Come to the office and sign your child out.
• Office staff will contact the classroom.
• Your child will meet you in the office.

Please do not go directly to classrooms. While you may be a familiar face to your child, other students do not know who you are. This procedure helps maintain a safe school environment.

Classroom Areas and Smoke Doors

To provide an additional layer of safety for students and staff, parents and visitors are asked not to pass through the smoke doors into classroom areas during the school day.

When students are present, we want only staff members in instructional areas unless other arrangements have been made through the office.

PAC Meeting This Tuesday

Our first PAC meeting of the school year will be held:

All parents and guardians are warmly invited to attend.

The PAC plays a vital role in supporting our school community, and new members are always welcome. We hope to see many families there.
