2023-24 Kindergarten Gradual Entry

Dear Oppenheimer Kindergarten Parents/Caregivers:

Welcome to David Oppenheimer School.  We thank you in advance for taking the time to read this email carefully.

GRADUAL ENTRY:

We look forward to meeting you and getting to know your family better. We also look forward to seeing you on Wednesday September 6th, the first day of gradual entry for all Kindergarten students.  We follow a gradual entry schedule for the first 5 days of school for kindergarten students only. The 6th day (September 14th) is the first full day of attendance for all Kindergarten classes. Gradual entry is a provincially recognized practice that is in place to facilitate a smooth transition into kindergarten for your child.

Please prepare your child for a smooth transition by talking to them about school in a positive way and reassuring that they are safe and that they will be picked up when school is finished.

SCHEDULE:

Please see schedule attached.

MEETING AREA:

Oppenheimer staff will meet students outside the school.  We will meet at our outdoor learning space next to the staff parking lot on Scarboro Avenue.

SNACKS- Allergy Alert!

Please note that we are an allergy-aware school, which means that nuts and shellfish should be excluded from your child’s snacks and lunches.  We have students and staff extremely allergic to these foods and we thank you for helping to keep all our students safe.

OUTDOOR PLAY:

Outdoor play is supervised by Supervision Aides.  Children are expected to be outside rain or shine during recess and lunch recess.

We look forward to the new school year and beginning our partnership with you together so we can support and enhance all aspects of your child’s learning at Oppenheimer School. We hope the gradual entry process and this information make for a successful start for your child.

Sincerely,

Elaine Ong, Jennifer Pewsey, Jessica Wilkes (K Teachers) & Shannon Burke (Principal), Jesseca Eng (Vice-Principal)
