Next week, we are honouring Terry's Legacy at Bruce Elementary
Dear Graham Bruce Families,
On Monday, our students moved to their new divisions and met their new or returning teachers and peers for this school year. We finished the week with a school-wide assembly that gave me the opportunity to share a few things about myself with our students and introduce our new and returning staff members. We also reviewed some of the expectations regarding recess and lunch breaks. Please see below some important information about the upcoming events.
Welcome to Our New Staff Members
Please join me in welcoming our new staff members and wishing them all the best as they are settling into their new school and roles:
- Ms. Sonia Khallar who is covering for Ms. Kelly Lee and working on Thursdays and Fridays in Division 9 – Gr. 2/3, job sharing with Ms. Holden
- Ms. Melanie Mazariegos, who is covering for Ms. Stephanie Roberts and will teach in Division 3 – Gr. 6/7
- Ms. Rowena Abad, Student and School Support Staff
- Mr. Neil Hundevad, Student and School Support Staff
Terry Fox Run - Thursday, September 21st
Today, at our school assembly, we had a chance to watch a video about the legacy of Terry Fox. Like every year, we will have the opportunity to honour Terry at our school. Many thanks to Ms. Leslie Learmonth for leading this event at our school. Students will be running at 2pm. Many thanks to our PAC for providing oranges to our students. In order to support the cancer research foundation, we are asking our students to kindly bring a toonie to school starting next week and donate it to the foundation. We will collect the toonies next week.
Bruce Open House - Thursday, September 28th
Please come to our School Open House on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 6:00-7:00pm. You will have the opportunity to meet our teachers and your new school principal! You will also be able to tour the school and visit your child(ren)'s classrooms. Please note the Open House is not a parent teacher conference to discuss your child's performance. The conferences will take place in October and you will receive more information closer to the date.
Bruce September 29 ProD - School closed for students
Each school year, we have 6 professional development days that are offered to school staff members, who participate in a variety of workshops to inform their practice. Two of the six are flexible days. This means that school can choose the day that works best for them. Last June, staff at Bruce decided to shift their professional development day from September 22nd to September 29th. Please remember that on Friday, September 29th, school is closed for students.
