2023-2024 Craft Fair @Bruce!

Dear Graham Bruce Families,

It was very nice to see many of you at our Craft Fair on Thursday after school. It was impressive to see so many talented students and entrepreneurs gathered from both Graham Bruce Elementary and Collingwood Annex in our gym! It was a joy to go from one table to another and look at our passionate students showcasing their handmade crafts. Many thanks to our PAC, who made this event come to life under the leadership of our PAC co-chair, Ms. JL Luna.

Track and Field at Bruce!

We are so happy to have a Gr. 4-7 Track and Field team at Bruce this year! We currently have 24 students on our team, who are being coached by Ms. Tan, Ms. Roberts, and Ms. Conely. We also have a special guest coach, Isabella, from the Jerome Outreach Society! We practice 3 times a week in long and short distance running, relays, long jump, and shot put. There will be 3 Mini-meets at Killarney Secondary with a final meet at Swangard Stadium in June. Parents are welcome to come and join us if they are available!

Professor Wow - The Invisible World of Science @Bruce!

On May 1st, Professor Wow is coming to our school to perform for our K-7 students! Professor Wow will be using his mind-boggling circus skills to reveal the invisible scientific forces that are around us. "Using floating objects, he brings the concept of lift to life, helping kids understand how airplanes fly. He breaks the sound barrier with the crack of a bullwhip to give students a visceral understanding of speed’s powerful forces. With expert juggling and balancing skills, plus help from audience volunteers, Professor Wow demonstrates Newton’s three laws of motion, and more." 'The Big One at Two' District-Wide Earthquake Drill Thursday, May 2nd

Every year in May, the Vancouver Board of Education runs a district-wide Earthquake drill. This year the drill for all Vancouver schools will be held on Thursday, May 2nd at 2:00 pm. At 2:00 pm, all students and staff will begin the practice in their classrooms, by going under their desks and counting to 60 in unison. After the count, everyone will proceed outside to the gravel field, as we do during a Fire Drill. Once outside, we will set up our First Aid Station and Release Station. The Release Station is for coordinating the release of students to parents or guardians. In such an event, adults who are picking up students would check-in at the Release Station and sign-out the child that they are taking off of the school grounds. This school year, we have asked our Kindergarten families to practise the reunification process with us. For all other families, the dismissal is as always at 3:03pm. The VSB has also implemented a radio communication process which will be used during this practice. Each school is equipped with a radio that can be used to communicate to the VSB Command Post with status information (i.e. injuries, structural damages, etc.). Schools are called one at a time to report their status. We must remain on the field until each school has completed their status reports. Once all schools have completed their status reports, students and staff may return to the building.
