A Beautiful Snowy Day @Laurier!

Dear Laurier Families,

On Tuesday, January 31st, you received your child(ren)'s written report card(s), a reflection of their performance during the first part of this school year. This was in addition to different ongoing forms of communication between school and home, with a focus on where your children do well, where they need to improve and how they can be supported at school and home. We hope you had the opportunity to sit with your children and celebrate their learning and set goals to move forward. We are proud of our students at Laurier, as they work and try hard in different areas of learning.

February is the month of friendship, love, compassion and empathy. Our students will participate in a range of activities to celebrate the diversity of our community and to learn to build meaningful and healthy relationships. Please read below for some of these activities. We appreciate your support with these special events at Laurier!

Bye January! Hello February!

After many rainy and cold days in January, we are beginning the month of February with a few more sunny days! Here is a highlight of our extra- curricular activities in January: Lion's Dance and classroom activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year, Skating, January SOAR Assembly, Fire and Lockdown drills to practice for real emergencies. Our teachers continued to organize field trips and extra-curricular activities to support student learning. January was also a time to celebrate our students' learning via the written report cards. Our teachers participated in a professional development day on January 23 with a focus on Universal Design for Learning and our support staff worked with the district speech and language pathologist to support the special learning needs of our students.

Many thanks to our PAC executives for another meaningful PAC meeting, where as a community we gather and share updates and discuss school events and other related educational topics. Special thanks to our parent volunteers for leading the Lunar New Year and Hobiyee activities in the library after school on January 24th.

Please check below the Upcoming Dates for events and activities in February!

February is Black History Month

At Laurier, like many people across Canada, we participate in Black History Month to honour the legacy of Black people in Canada with a focus on our local communities. The 2023 theme for Black History Month is: “Ours to tell”. These are some of the people and facts we are sharing this month: Wayde Compton, Sir James Douglas, Josephine and Phillip Sullivan and Sons, John Sullivan Deas, Grafton Tyler Brown, Joe Fortes, Sleeping Car Porters, William H. H. February is Children’s Book Recycling Project @Laurier - 1000 x 5 - Book Drive

The Rotary Club of Vancouver Arbutus and the Vancouver School Board Early Learning Department are working to get books into the hands of children from zero to five years old - they want kids to enjoy 1,000 books before kindergarten!

Our school has volunteered to collect books for this good cause! We are collecting gently used books.  Early Reading Books, like board books and picture books are especially welcomed. Clean out your bookshelves and have your kids donate the books into the yellow box labelled "Book Drive” by the office.

Opens  - Monday, February 6th

Last Day - Friday, February 24th

For more info click here.

If you cannot make it to the school and wish to have the books collected from you, please email Rotary1000x5@gmail.com to set up a time with their coordinator. Lets help kids read more before Kindergarten!

February is the Food Bank Month @Laurier

As an act of kindness for the month of February, Laurier will be hosting a virtual fundraiser for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank! For every $1 you donate, the Food Bank can buy $3 of healthy nutritious food! That’s impact! Please consider making a donation and together we can make a real difference. Whatever you can give will help - it all adds up! Many thanks to Ms. Tan and Division 4 for leading this activity in our community! Please find below the Sir Wilfrid Laurier QR Code:1675458500766.png
