School Policies and Procedures

VISITORS & VOLUNTEERS @ LAURIER
We are happy to meet with you at any time, however appointments are appreciated and encouraged. The office is a busy place, knowing you are coming will help us create a safe and welcoming space for all. For the safety of our students, all visitors and volunteers must sign in and out at the office. Thank you!

PUNCTUALITY
Punctuality and regular attendance at school are very important and good habits of coming to school and arriving on time are important habits to develop early on.

Students should arrive to school on time. Teachers take attendance first thing in the morning and submit this to the office for the safe arrival program. Students who are not present at this time are marked absent. Students who arrive late must sign in and pick up a late slip to give to their teacher. The late slip allows us to change this notation in the attendance. The late slip also ensures we know exactly which students are present so we are able to account for all children in the case of an emergency evacuation.

DROP-OFF/PICK-UP OF YOUR CHILD
School staff provide limited outside supervision before school at 8:40am and after school until 3:15pm only. Parents are asked to ensure their child clearly understands your family's drop-off and pick-up arrangements. Children who are not picked up by 3:15pm are asked to go to the main office to wait safely for their parent/caregiver. Please do not be late picking up your child. The office closes at 3:30pm and staff are not always available to contact you or remain with your child until you arrive.

APPOINTMENTS & EARLY PICK-UPS
When picking up your child during the school day, please ensure that you sign them out at the main office. There is a "student sign-out" clipboard found on the front counter.

When there is a planned appointment, please send a note with your child to the classroom teacher or send an email to: lauattendance@vsb.bc.ca.

AUTHORIZING STUDENT PICK-UP
Only authorized adults will be permitted to pick-up your child from school. You must provide a signed note indicating the name of the adult picking up your child.

DRIVE SAFELY
All drivers are urged to exercise particular and extra-special caution and care when driving in and around school zones:

  • Watch for children and families crossing streets, both in and out of intersections.
  • Remind your children about safe walking practices (look both ways before crossing streets; cross only at intersections, etc.)
  • SLOW DOWN! The speed limit in school zones is 30 km/h.

Please respect street signage when dropping off or picking up your child. It is best to park away from the school or in the school parking lot and walk in with your child.

PERSONAL ITEMS/LOST & FOUND
The school cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage, students are discouraged from bringing personal items to school. The general rule is not to bring anything to school that would make you sad if it gets lost, broken or stolen.

If something is lost, please check our Lost and Found site located (1) Main Office or (2) Lower level of the school building. All items remaining at the end of the year are sent to a local charity. To avoid this, please put your child's name on everything they bring/wear to school.

VSB Dog Policy
We all love our four-legged friends, but they are not allowed on school grounds, especially during pick-up and drop-off times. Dogs are prohibited on school grounds, play fields, and inside the school from 8AM to 5PM, as well as during any organized school events outside these hours (unless they are service dogs).

Please review the VSB's Dog Code, which is posted on the bright green signs on the fences. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school grounds and play fields safe and comfortable for our students and all members of the Laurier community.
