Road Safety Campaign @Laurier!

Dear Laurier Families,

We are only a week away from the Spring Break! Time flies by! We have planned many different curricular, cultural and athletic activities for our students for the last three months of this school year after the break. You will learn about them in our regular e-News and through your classroom teachers. Learning Never Stops At Laurier!

Bye February! Hello March!

February was a shorter month but very busy at Laurier! Here is a highlight of our extra-curricular activities in March: Ocean Drive presentations, Black History Month, Pink Shirt Day, February SOAR Assembly, February Fun Day, Kung Fu sessions, Book Drive, Food Bank (We raised $550!). Our teachers continued to organize field trips and extra-curricular activities to support student learning. Our staff attended a variety of workshops to inform their practice on February 17 and our teachers participated in lunch and learn sessions working on Novel Studies and Universal Design for Learning.

Please check below the Upcoming Dates for events and activities in March!

Road Safety Campaign @Laurier: Let's Keep Our Students Safe!

-Speed Reduction Pilot at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Elementary: The school active planning program is busy to making the necessary arrangements to prepare for its official launch on March 28th, from signage, educational materials and a communication plan. This campaign will include speed limit signages, speed limit pavement markings and a custom large sign (School Zone - Slow Down).

-The 'Think of Me Campaign': This is a collaboration outreach with KOM CPC team, VPD and ICBC, which is an education/awareness campaign to remind drivers to slow down and not drive distracted in school zone, an engaging initiative for young students and targeting drivers aged 25-55 between 0800 – 1700 hours on school days. Our Laurier students will help design a one of a kind warning ticket that will be be given to a distracted driver or speeder in our school zone. South Van CPC team and potentially VPD will hand out these in school zones to remind drivers to think of the kids.
