The information below is intended to assist students with identifying and accessing supports during their training program and/or apprenticeship.
Student Learning Supports at post-secondary institutions
Students enrolled in a Youth TRAIN in Trades or Dual-Credit program may be entitled to learning supports available at their post-secondary institution. Please visit the sites below to learn more about what is available, how to access supports, and when to start building a Individual Accommodation Plan (IAP).
Most institutions require 4 to 8 weeks of advanced notice to start building an IAP. It is important to take action on this well before the start of a training program.
BCIT - Accessibility Services
Finishing Trades Institute - Please contact the institution directly via phone or email to discuss supports.
Langara College - Accessibility Services

SkilledTradesBC Exam Accommodations
Some students may require accommodations or unique supports to be successful in their subject-level exams. To request an accommodation (e.g., extra time, use of a reader, use of a translator), you'll start by downloading a copy of the SkilledTradesBC Exam Application.
If you are taking your exam at BCIT, VCC, UAPIC, or FTI, we suggest taking the Exam Application to your instructor at least one month prior to the exam. You can also use this same form to request to rewrite your exam with or without accommodations.
SkilledTradesBC Personal Record Book
Students are encouraged to keep track of their progress in their trade and communicate with their supervising journeyperson and/or employer about how and when the competencies for each level of training will be learned.
Click the link below to download a copy of the Personal Record Book for your trade. If your trade is not listed here, please visit https://skilledtradesbc.ca/find-your-trade, enter the name of your trade, and scroll down to the 'Record Book' link.
