Safe Arrival: What to do if your child is Late or Absent

SAFE ARRIVAL- REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES

Student safety is of paramount importance at the Vancouver School District.  Ensuring student safety is a shared responsibility.  In order to assist schools, we ask parents to notify schools of student absences.

To report an absence parents/guardians will begin by calling 604-713-5159 – this is a district number.

Parents will be prompted to provide the two-digit extension for Collingwood- the number is 20#

The message service will greet you with:

“Hello, you have reached the safe arrival absence phone line for Collingwood.  To report an absence for your child please provide the following information:”

The first and last name of your child - spell the last name

Grade and division number (if known)

The reason for the absence

The date of the absence and the length of the absence if your child will be away for more than one day.

Also, if you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day, please ensure that you sign them out at the school office before leaving.  If you do not sign out your child, they will be unaccounted for, and the school will identify your child as a ‘missing’ student and will commence a search of school grounds and other protocol as needed.  Thank you for helping us keep your children safe!
