Many small steps lead to BIG strides at General Gordon!

Students in Mr. Carter’s grade 4/5 class at General Gordon Elementary have a lot to celebrate and be proud about as the school year draws to a close. Together, they raised more than $10,000 this year as part for RBC Race for the Kids, benefiting BC Children’s Hospital.

An annual tradition for Mr. Carter and students, this year, the class held a charity car wash that raised more than $400.00 and collected donations during a school dance. Working to engage younger students, he and students in his class also hosted a Skip-a-thon with the kindergarten students at the school – a learning experience for all, a fun activity across all ages and way to share the value of supporting a cause!

“As it stands, we are currently the second on the leaderboard for all schools in the Lower Mainland,” said Mr. Carter. “Students are ecstatic!”  So far, over the years, grade 4/5 students raised more than $750,000 collectively. According to Mr. Carter, equally as monumental is that “We’ve cultivated an enthusiasm for this cause.”

Since 1986, race participants throughout BC and their supporters have turned countless small steps into mighty strides in child health. This dedication resulted in support for cancer research, mental health programs and other vital resources for patients at BC Children’s Hospital and their families.
